Want to catch the first fish of the day in Kagoshima, but nervous about a Klook trip with no reviews? You join other anglers on a shared boat that leaves at 6:00 from one of three ports. Fishing gear is included, and the price is about US$117 per person (as of October 2026).
The listing has no reviews yet, names the operator only by its Japanese company name and disagrees with itself in a few places. So we split this guide in three: what the listing says, where it contradicts itself, and what to ask Klook before you pay. We built it from the Klook listing and map routing, and we flag anything we couldn’t confirm.

The sales copy goes further. It promises big catches that come quickly, rainbows and a view of Sakurajima. With no reviews yet, we treat those as claims, not facts.
Where the Listing Contradicts Itself
⚠️ Solo or not? — The description says a group can form with just one person. The package details say the minimum group size is 2
- How long do you fish? — The description says about 6 hours of fishing. The schedule runs 6:00 to 12:00 from departure to return, so the time on the water has to be shorter
- Insurance — Klook lists it under “not included” and doesn’t say what kind is missing
- Who runs the boat? — Klook gives the operator only as a Japanese company name, 美信佳株式会社, and doesn’t name the boat
- Reviews — There are none, and Klook shows no booking count

Can I go alone?

We can’t say yet. The description says one person can form a group, but the package details say the minimum is 2. If you’re traveling alone, we’d book only after Klook answers in writing.
Questions to Ask Klook Before You Book
We’d send this list to Klook in one message and book once the answers satisfy you.
- Will the trip run with only one guest? What is the real minimum?
- How many hours will we actually fish?
- What does “insurance not included” mean, and what is covered on board?
- Who runs the boat, and what is its name?
- Which port, and what time and place do we meet?
- Will anyone on board speak English?
- Which fish do you target, and how do we fish (bait or lures)?
- Does the free transfer cover both the ride to the port and the ride back?
Which Port? Getting There at 6:00
Klook lets you choose the port when you book. This table shows the driving time from Kagoshima-Chuo Station (鹿児島中央駅) and from Kagoshima Airport (鹿児島空港) to each port.
| Port | From the station | From the airport |
|---|---|---|
| Kagoshima Shinko (鹿児島新港) | about 9 min | about 46 min |
| Kirishima Hayato Port (霧島隼人港) | about 46 min | about 21 min |
| Ibusuki Yamakawa Port (指宿山川港) | about 90 min | about 122 min |
Source: OpenStreetMap routing, our estimate from map routing without traffic, calculated October 2026. The Yamakawa figures are rough, because the map point sits near the Yamakawa district rather than at the pier.
If you’re staying in Kagoshima city, we’d pick Kagoshima Shinko. It’s about 9 minutes from the station by car, against about 46 for Hayato and about 90 for Yamakawa.
We couldn’t confirm any public transport that reaches a port by 6:00. Groups of 3 or more get the free transfer. Everyone else should plan on a taxi or a rental car.

Where to Stay
The departure is at 6:00, so sleep close to your port the night before. Klook lists hotels in Kagoshima, and you can pick one near the port you chose.
Hotels in Kagoshima on Klook →Your Catch
The listing names no fish, so we won’t promise any. Here is what Klook says happens to what you catch.
Chilled and packed
The staff chill your fish and pack it for you.
An izakaya on request
The staff recommend an izakaya (居酒屋, a Japanese pub). You pay the cooking fee yourself.
A ride afterward
If you have the transfer, the staff take you back to your lodging or to the izakaya.
A note on raw fish
Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare warns that Anisakis larvae live in seafood such as mackerel, horse mackerel, sardines and squid. Eating them raw can cause severe stomach pain, usually within hours to a few days. Freezing at −20°C for at least 24 hours, or cooking at 70°C or higher (or 60°C for 1 minute), kills them. Vinegar, salt, soy sauce and wasabi do not. We can’t say which fish you’ll catch, so we’d pick it grilled, fried or simmered instead of sashimi.
Booking, Cancellation and Weather
Klook sets these rules. This table shows what happens in each case.
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| You cancel 72 hours or more before | Full refund |
| You arrive late or don’t show up | No refund |
| You cancel after joining the trip | No refund |
| The operator cancels for weather or waves | Rebooking |
| Your cruise, ferry or flight is canceled because of weather | Full refund |

Do I get my money back if bad weather cancels the trip?

Klook offers a rebooking, not a refund. It gives a full refund only when a cruise, ferry or flight is canceled, and the listing doesn’t say whether the fishing boat counts. If you fly out soon after the trip, we’d book only after asking Klook, because a rebooking won’t help once you’ve left.
What to Bring
🎒 Your packing list
- ☐ Seasickness medicine. Take it before you board
- ☐ Rain gear and a warm layer, because you leave at 6:00
- ☐ Sunscreen
- ☐ Food and drinks. Klook doesn’t include them
- ☐ Your travel insurance details. Klook lists insurance as not included
- ☐ A cooler bag or a plan for your fish, if you want to take it with you
Do You Need a Fishing License?
No. We found no license system for rod fishing in the sea in official sources. Japan’s Fisheries Agency says foreign nationals may fish from a vessel of 3 tons or more only on a Japanese vessel. A Japanese fisher must control it. The listing gives only the operator’s company name, so ask Klook which boat you’ll board. For more, see do you need a fishing license in Japan?
