Want a big fish on the line and a boat that’s all yours? This trip gives you both.
Trolling means the boat keeps moving while lures or bait trail behind it, so you can target large fish. This 3-hour private charter leaves from Maeda Fishing Port (真栄田漁港, Maeda Gyoko) in Onna Village, Okinawa. The boat carries up to 8 people.
This guide uses the Klook listing and the operator’s own page. We point out where the two disagree.

Is This Trip Right for You?
✅ Great if you…
- are a family or group of four or more. The price is per boat, so a group of four pays ¥32,000 each
- have never fished. Klook says beginners are welcome and the guide explains how it works
- are staying in Onna. The port is in the same village
- want a try at big fish in just 3 hours
⚠️ Think twice if you…
- are traveling alone or as a pair. You pay for the whole boat either way
- need a guaranteed catch. There’s no refund if nothing bites
- are only free on a Sunday. There are no trips that day
- need fluent English. The operator’s own page lists Japanese only
- get seasick easily. Klook advises taking medicine 30 minutes before departure
We’d pick this trip for a group of four or more, because the price is per boat.

Your 3 Hours, Step by Step
The operator’s page gives this example for a 9:00 start.
8:50 Arrive at the port
Klook asks you to arrive 10 minutes before the start time
9:00 Meet the crew
Check-in begins at the port
9:05 Check-in and briefing
The crew explains how the fishing works
9:10 Leave the port
The captain heads out to one of three spots, chosen by the sea conditions
About 9:25–9:50 Reach the spot
The operator says the spots are 15 to 40 minutes from the port
11:30 Leave the spot
Head back toward the port
12:00 Back at the port
The example’s finish time
The 13:00 trip follows the same pattern, so expect it to finish around 16:00. Klook lists finish times of 13:00 and 17:00, later than the example. If you fly out the same day, we’d book the 9:00 start and keep your flight for the evening. The drive to Naha Airport takes about 53 minutes without traffic.
How Trolling Works
Step 1: The boat keeps moving
Lures or bait trail behind the boat while it runs. Klook says this is how the trip targets large fish.
Step 2: Two rods
The operator’s trolling gear is two rods. With a big group, you’d likely take turns.
Step 3: The crew runs the boat
Guests can’t steer or operate the boat. You focus on the rod and the fish.

Can I land a big fish if I’ve never fished before?

Klook says beginners are welcome and the guide explains the fishing. Nothing is guaranteed, and there’s no refund if nothing bites.
What You Might Catch
Klook names tuna (maguro), skipjack tuna (katsuo, 鰹), mahi-mahi (common dolphinfish, shiira, シイラ) and Spanish mackerel (sawara, 鰆). With luck, you may hook a marlin (kajiki, カジキ).
What bites depends on the day and the sea. We couldn’t find catch records by month, so we can’t tell you which fish is likely in your month. The operator doesn’t refund you if nothing bites.
Price, Group Size and What’s Included

Splitting ¥128,000 evenly gives these amounts per person.

| 1 | ¥128,000 |
| 2 | ¥64,000 |
| 4 | ¥32,000 |
| 8 | ¥16,000 |
Source: Klook listing, checked October 2026. The split is our own math. Babies and toddlers count toward the group size.
Klook sells this charter for up to 8 people per boat.
⚠️ No trips on Sundays — The operator’s page says it doesn’t run trips every Sunday. Klook doesn’t say so, so choose another day
- Klook’s price depends on the date — The ¥128,000 above is what Klook showed in October 2026
English and Communication
Klook lists a guide who speaks Chinese, English or Japanese. The operator’s own page lists Japanese. Don’t count on fluent English.
We’d download a translation app before you go, since we couldn’t confirm English-speaking crew. You’ll want mobile data to use it. See our guide to the best eSIM for fishing in Japan. Ask Klook about English before you book.

Parking is available at the port, according to the operator

Can I get there by bus?

We couldn’t confirm a bus from Naha Airport. We’d rent a car or take a taxi, and the port has parking.
Where to Stay
We’d stay in Onna the night before. The drive from Naha Airport alone is about 53 minutes, and Klook asks you to arrive 10 minutes early. Onna is in Kunigami District (国頭郡, Kunigami-gun), where Klook lists hotels.
Hotels in Onna and northern Okinawa on Klook →Eating Your Catch
The operator’s page says a nearby restaurant will cook your catch for a fee. It doesn’t name the restaurant or give a price, so ask the crew at check-in.
A note on raw fish
Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare warns that Anisakis larvae live in seafood such as mackerel, horse mackerel, sardines, bonito, tuna and squid. Eating them raw can cause severe stomach pain, usually within hours to a few days. Freezing at −20°C for at least 24 hours, or cooking at 70°C or higher (or 60°C for 1 minute), kills them. Vinegar, salt, soy sauce and wasabi do not. If you want sashimi, let the restaurant prepare it.
Booking, Cancellation and Weather
Klook confirms your booking within 24 hours.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| 48 hours or more before | Free cancellation |
| You arrive late or don’t show | No refund |
| The operator cancels (for weather, for example) | You can choose a full refund |

What if the sea is too rough?

The operator contacts you in advance if it cancels. On Klook you can then choose a full refund.
We’d book a day early in your stay and avoid Sundays. A weather cancellation then leaves you room to try another day.
What to Bring
🎒 Your packing list
- ☐ Seasickness medicine. Take it 30 minutes before departure
- ☐ Light snacks such as rice balls. Meals and drinks aren’t included
- ☐ Layers that come off and go on easily
- ☐ Warm clothing and rain gear
- ☐ A towel
- ☐ Shoes that aren’t stiletto heels. The operator doesn’t allow them
Do You Need a Fishing License?
No. We found no license system for rod fishing in the sea in official sources. Japan’s Fisheries Agency allows foreign visitors to rod-fish from fishing charters run by Japanese fishers, and it asks everyone to follow local rules. Follow the captain’s instructions. For more, see do you need a fishing license in Japan?
