Ever wished your ryokan came with its own fishing pier? Hyakurakuso (百楽荘) does. It sits on Tsukumo Bay (九十九湾, Tsukumo-wan) on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa, and only its guests can fish from the pier.
You can fish from 14:00 on the day you arrive until 12:00 the next day. The kitchen cooks your catch. The big question is whether the pier is open after the 2024 earthquake. The inn’s Japanese pages say yes, and its 2026 catch reports back that up.
We built this guide from the inn’s Japanese and English pages, its catch reports, the KKday and Klook listings and the bus timetables. We flag anything we couldn’t confirm.
CHUBU REGION
Tsukumo Bay, Noto, Ishikawa
From Kanazawa: About 4 hours by bus with one change, or about 2 hours 30 minutes by car
Fishing: The inn's own pier, for staying guests only
At a Glance
- Pier: Guests of the inn only, free to use, 14:00 on arrival day to 12:00 the next day (the inn says)
- Rental fishing set: ¥2,200–2,750, paid at the inn (the inn says, as of October 2026)
- Your catch: The kitchen cooks up to 3 fish per person for free at dinner or breakfast (the inn says)
- Check-in and check-out: From 15:00 until 19:30, and out by 11:00 (Klook)
- From Kanazawa: About 4 hours by bus for ¥2,600, with free inn pick-up if you ask by the day before
- Payment: Cards. Klook says the inn doesn’t accept cash
- Free cancellation: Depends on the plan
Room prices and available dates vary. Check the current price on KKday before you book.
Is This Stay Right for You?
✅ Great if you…
- want to fish without a boat or a guide. The pier is a few steps from the inn
- are traveling with kids. A sabiki rig (many tiny hooks on one line) is the method guests report most
- want to fish at night too. The pier stays open until noon the next day
- like a seaside bath after fishing. The inn has two large baths filled with deep sea water
- want a one-night trip from Kanazawa into Noto
⚠️ Think twice if you…
- only want to fish. The pier is for staying guests, so day visitors can’t use it
- will arrive after 19:30. Klook says the inn can’t check you in after that
- need a fully Western-style room. The inn says it has none
- have tattoos and want to use the large baths. We couldn’t confirm the inn’s rule
- would rather not drive in snow. Roads are hard from December to early March
Is the Fishing Pier Open After the 2024 Earthquake?
The short answer is yes, in part. Here is the timeline from the inn’s own news posts.
| Date | What the inn announced |
|---|---|
| January 2, 2024 | The inn closed after the earthquake. The tsunami left half the fishing pier underwater |
| April 19, 2024 | The inn reopened |
| September 2024 and August 2025 | Heavy rain hit the area, and the inn said it was operating as usual |
| May 3, 2025 | The fishing pier reopened in part |
| May–September 2026 | About 100 catch reports were posted, the latest for a trip on September 27 |
Source: Hyakurakuso website news and catch reports, and the inn’s READYFOR crowdfunding page, checked October 2026.
⚠️ The English page is out of date — It still lists the fishing pier as “currently not available.” The Japanese page says it reopened in May 2025
- Only part of the pier is open — The inn’s crowdfunding updates say only some areas reopened. Full repairs need seawall work first, which the inn expected to take until late 2026. The inn doesn’t say which areas are still closed
- Some dining halls are closed — Two of the inn’s dining halls are closed for earthquake repairs. Meals are served in private dining rooms

The English site says the pier is closed. Who’s right?

The Japanese page and the 2026 catch reports show guests fishing there. The English page hasn’t been updated. Only some areas are open, so we’d ask the inn which part you can fish from when you book.
How the Guests-Only Pier Works
- Who can fish: Only guests of the inn. The inn asks people from outside not to use it
- Hours: 14:00 on the day you stay until 12:00 the day you leave
- Extra hours: ¥5,500 per person for each extra hour
- Late at night: The lights go off. Tell the front desk if you want to keep fishing
- Life jackets: The inn asks guests to wear one at night. We couldn’t confirm that it rents them
These fees come from the inn’s website (as of October 2026). You pay them at the inn, not on KKday or Klook.
| Item | Price | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Using the pier | Free | Guests only |
| Rental fishing set | ¥2,200–2,750 | The inn doesn’t list what’s in the set |
| Bait | Paid at the front desk | The inn doesn’t list a price |
| Your own rod | Free to bring | The inn says bring it as you like |
| Broken or lost rod or reel | Extra charge possible | Amount not listed |
Source: Hyakurakuso fishing page and Q&A, checked October 2026.
If you’re coming by bus, we’d rent a set at the inn. It costs ¥2,200–2,750, and we couldn’t confirm whether the bus company lets you carry a rod. If you own a life jacket, bring it for night fishing.
How guests fish here
The inn’s 2026 catch reports list sabiki more than any other method. Other methods in the reports include dango (a ball of bait), egi (a squid lure), lures, krill bait, floats, jigs and isome worms. We’d start with sabiki if you’re new to fishing or fishing with kids. It is the method guests report most.
What You Can Catch, Season by Season
The inn says you can fish here all year. The calendar below shows the stay and the pier by month.
📅 When you can stay and fish
Open Part of the month Closed
The inn lists no closing period. Snow is the main limit: the inn says December to early March needs winter tires or chains. Check available dates on KKday.
Source: Hyakurakuso website, checked October 2026.
Snow is heaviest in January and February. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) normal for Wajima is 26.4 snow days in January and 21.9 in February. Suzu’s normal deepest snow cover is 31 cm in January. Typhoons are another thing to plan for. JMA says 2.8 typhoons approach the Hokuriku region in a normal year, and September has the most, at 1.0.

The methods in plain words
- sabiki — a line of many tiny hooks; drop it and jig it for small schooling fish
- egi — a shrimp-shaped lure for squid that you cast and twitch
Source: Hyakurakuso season list and 2026 catch reports (May–September), checked October 2026. The inn lists November under both autumn and winter. Catch reports show the methods for each month, not for each fish. Lines marked “Also” come from the inn’s season list only. Catches change from year to year.
If you want to try for squid with egi, we’d book for September. That is the month where both the inn’s season list and the catch reports name bigfin reef squid.
Having Your Catch Cooked
The inn cooks the fish you catch and serves it at dinner or breakfast. The cooking fee is free for the first three fish per person.
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| First 3 fish per person | Free |
| From the 4th fish | ¥500 |
| Foam box to take fish home | From ¥330 |

The KKday plans only include breakfast. Can I still eat my fish?

Yes, at breakfast. The inn serves your catch at dinner or breakfast. KKday’s plans are room-only or with breakfast. We couldn’t confirm whether you can add dinner, so ask the inn after you book.
A 17:03 arrival leaves little daylight before dinner (17:30–19:45), so breakfast (8:00–9:30) is the likelier slot for your catch. We’d book a plan with breakfast if you want to eat your own fish.
Baths, Meals and Rooms
⚠️ Check-in closes at 19:30 — Klook says the inn can’t check you in after that. Check-in opens at 15:00
- Tattoos — The inn’s Japanese, English and Chinese pages don’t mention tattoos. Ask the inn or the booking site before you book
Baths
- Two large baths: An observation bath and a cave bath, open 5:00–23:30. Men and women swap baths
- The water: The inn says it’s deep sea water pumped up from a depth of 320 m. We couldn’t confirm whether it counts as a hot spring under Japanese law
- Booking the baths: Klook says guests must contact the inn in advance to reserve access to the public baths. We’d ask when you book
- Day visitors: The inn doesn’t offer day-use bathing
Meals
- Where: Private dining rooms. There’s no meal in your room
- Times: You pick a time between 17:30 and 19:45 for dinner, and between 8:00 and 9:30 for breakfast
- Kids: The inn has a children’s menu
- Diets: The English page lists “Vegetarian, Halal, Kosher, Vegan, Gluten-free” under allergies. We couldn’t confirm what the kitchen can do, so write to the inn before you arrive
- Klook’s breakfast: Klook lists a Japanese breakfast at about ¥3,300 for adults and about ¥2,200 for children, paid separately
Rooms
- Size and view: 26 rooms, and every room looks over the bay. The inn lists room capacities of 4 to 6 guests
- Style: The inn says it has no fully Western-style rooms. KKday’s room types include Japanese-style rooms, a Japanese-Western twin and suites
- Smoking: All rooms are smoke-free. Smoking is allowed only on the balconies of 6 suites and in the smoking areas
- Good to know: Wi-Fi in every room, free parking, no pets, and the inn isn’t barrier-free. The inn says you can send luggage ahead
Getting to Tsukumo Bay Without a Car
Pick the way that fits your trip.
Bus from Kanazawa
About 4 hours, ¥2,600, with free inn pick-up if you ask by the day before. Our pick for most trips.
Fly into Noto
ANA flies Haneda to Noto Satoyama Airport. Then take a bus or a shared taxi.
Drive
About 2 hours 30 minutes from Kanazawa. Check the winter roads first.
By bus from Kanazawa
The bus leaves from Kanazawa Station West Exit (金沢駅西口), bus stop 7. It’s Hokutetsu’s (北陸鉄道) Noto express bus. You change buses at Noto Satoyama Airport, then get off at Tsukumo-wan (九十九湾). The airport’s official name is now Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport. This guide uses the shorter name.

⚠️ Take the right bus at the airport — Two buses leave at the same time. Take the one marked 内浦総合支所前, not the one marked すずなり館前. The inn’s English page gives the same warning
- No Suica — Suica and other IC cards don’t work. Contactless credit cards and cash do. We couldn’t confirm contactless payment on the airport connection, so carry cash
- No reservations — The bus can’t be reserved. If it’s full, you can’t board
- Fare: ¥2,600 for the whole trip. Pay the full fare when you change buses, and keep the transfer ticket. Children pay half. Route apps may add the two legs together and show ¥3,350, but the through fare is ¥2,600
- Travel time: About 4 hours. The inn says about 3 hours 30 minutes, so plan on 4
- Passes: JR passes don’t work on Hokutetsu buses. The Okunoto free ticket doesn’t cover the express bus from Kanazawa to the airport
From the bus stop to the inn
The walk from Tsukumo-wan to the inn takes about 12 minutes, according to Yahoo! Transit. The inn offers a free pick-up if you ask by the day before. Call +81-768-74-1115 (0768-74-1115 in Japan). The inn’s English page says the pick-up is matched only to the 13:30 bus, and the Japanese page doesn’t say that.
Our pick: take the 13:30 bus and book the pick-up. You reach Tsukumo-wan at 17:03, well before the 19:30 check-in cutoff, and the dinner window opens at 17:30. The 15:40 bus arrives at 19:08. That leaves little margin before 19:30, plus a 12-minute walk.

The 7:15 bus reaches Tsukumo-wan at 11:03. That is before the 14:00 pier opening and the 15:00 check-in. We couldn’t confirm whether the inn holds bags early. The inn says you can send luggage ahead, so that is the safer way to go.
Flying from Tokyo
ANA flies Haneda to Noto Satoyama Airport. These are the flights listed for October 25, 2026 to January 31, 2027.
| Flight | Leaves | Arrives |
|---|---|---|
| ANA 747 from Haneda | 9:00 | 10:00 |
| ANA 749 from Haneda | 15:05 | 16:05 |
| ANA 748 to Haneda | 10:40 | 11:45 |
| ANA 750 to Haneda | 16:45 | 17:55 |
Source: Noto Satoyama Airport flight schedule, checked October 2026. Schedules change by season, so check the airport website before you book.
From the airport to Tsukumo-wan, you have two choices.
- Bus (Anamizu–Suzu Line C): Buses leave the airport at 10:10, 16:10 and 18:15. The fare is ¥1,150
- Furusato Taxi (ふるさとタクシー): A shared taxi you must book by 15:00 the day before. It costs ¥1,300 to ¥1,800, depending on the area. The airport doesn’t say which price covers Ossaka (越坂). It takes cash only, and big bags may not fit
The 10:10 bus leaves 10 minutes after the 9:00 flight lands, and the 16:10 bus leaves 5 minutes after the 15:05 flight lands. If you fly in, we’d book the Furusato Taxi, since you won’t have to rely on a tight connection. Bring cash.
A regular taxi costs over ¥10,000, according to the inn’s English page.
Getting home
The bus at 12:44 gets you to Kanazawa at 16:19. Guests who go home by bus get free late check-out. From Kanazawa, Yahoo! Transit shows a Shinkansen connection reaching Tokyo at 19:20 and Osaka at 19:37 (via Tsuruga, with a change). Those times are for a November weekday.
If you fly home, ANA 748 leaves Noto at 10:40 and ANA 750 at 16:45. We couldn’t confirm the bus times back to the airport, so ask the inn when you book.
From Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto to Kanazawa
| From | Travel time | Fare |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo | 2 hours 34 minutes | About ¥14,400–14,600 |
| Osaka | 2 hours 46 minutes | About ¥9,210–9,410 |
| Kyoto | 2 hours 15 minutes | ¥7,520 |
Source: Yahoo! Transit, checked October 2026. Osaka and Kyoto trips use the Thunderbird to Tsuruga and then the Hokuriku Shinkansen.
If you’re coming from Tokyo for the 13:30 bus, a Shinkansen leaving Tokyo by about 10:00 leaves time before 13:30. Or stay a night in Kanazawa and take the bus the next day.
Driving
The drive from Kanazawa takes about 2 hours 30 minutes, according to the inn’s English page. Parking at the inn is free. In winter, the mountain-side road is closed, so the inn recommends the coastal road. From December to early March, you need winter tires or chains.
On the Noto Satoyama Kaido (のと里山海道) expressway, the whole route has had two-way traffic since September 2024. One stretch, between the 越の原 and 横田 interchanges, has had alternating one-way traffic since August 17, 2026, and it runs until late December.
You can rent a car at Noto Satoyama Airport or at Kanazawa Station. The airport has Toyota, Nissan and Nippon, with limited hours that match the flights. The station has Toyota and others. From April to November, we’d drive if you want to skip the bus change. It cuts the trip from about 4 hours to about 2 hours 30 minutes.
Prices in the box below are set by Klook and change by date.
Booking on KKday or Klook
We’d book on KKday first. It lists several Japanese-style rooms and suites, as either room-only or with breakfast plans. Klook’s results can show only suites on some dates, so compare both sites for your dates. KKday spells the inn’s name “Hyakurakusou.”
⚠️ Don’t mix it up with the sister inn — There’s another Hyakurakuso in Kanazawa’s Yuwaku Onsen. This one is at 11-34 Ossaka (越坂), Noto-cho, Ishikawa 927-0552
- No pier on the booking pages — Neither listing mentions the fishing pier. After you book, tell the inn you want to fish and need the pick-up
Cancellation
The rules depend on the plan. For a December 9 stay, most KKday plans we saw charged the full price as the cancellation fee. Some breakfast plans were free to cancel until November 25. Check the plan’s terms before you pay.
Paying
| What | How you pay |
|---|---|
| Pier | Free |
| Rod rental, bait, cooking, foam box | At the inn. Klook says cards only, no cash |
| Kanazawa to Tsukumo-wan bus | Contactless credit card or cash, not Suica |
| Furusato Taxi | Cash only |

Do I need to call in Japanese?

The inn’s English page lists English and Chinese as languages. We couldn’t confirm how well the front desk handles English on the phone. We’d write your requests down (the pier, the pick-up and any diet) before you call +81-768-74-1115, or use the inn’s contact form.
Fishing Rules to Know in Ishikawa
You don’t need a license to fish with a rod in the sea in Ishikawa. Fishing rights cover the shore here, so don’t collect shellfish, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, octopus or seaweed. The prefecture’s rulebook lists abalone, turban shells, oysters, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, octopus and several seaweeds for this area. Read our guide, Do you need a fishing license in Japan?, for the full rules.
Nearby
- Noto Kaiyo Fureai Center (のと海洋ふれあいセンター), a marine nature center: A 30-minute walk from the inn, according to the inn. Open 9:00–17:00 and closed Mondays. Adults pay ¥210. Part of the rocky-shore walkway is closed because of the earthquake, and the center is open in 2026
- Squid Station (イカの駅つくモール) and the Ikasu-maru boat (イカす丸): The sightseeing boat runs 10:00–15:00 for about 40 minutes and costs ¥1,500. It was closed in winter 2025, and we couldn’t confirm winter 2026. Ask before you plan around it
- Ogi Port (小木港): Squid Station calls it one of Japan’s three big squid ports
On the day you stay in Kanazawa
The tours below start from Kanazawa, so they fit a day when you sleep in Kanazawa. They don’t fit on the day you ride the 13:30 bus.
Klook’s Noto Peninsula day tour leaves from Kanazawa with a Japanese-speaking guide. It doesn’t stop at Tsukumo Bay. We’d pick it only if you’re comfortable with Japanese guiding.
KKday’s outer Noto bus tour also leaves from Kanazawa Station. We couldn’t confirm its stops, so read the itinerary first.
Prices in the box below are set by Klook and change by date.
What to Bring
🎒 Your packing list
- ☐ A warm layer if you fish at night or in winter
- ☐ Your own life jacket, if you have one
- ☐ Cash for the Furusato Taxi and as a back-up for the bus
- ☐ A credit or debit card for the inn

FAQ
QCan I fish without staying at the inn?
No. The pier is for the inn’s guests only, and the inn asks outsiders not to use it.
QDo I need to bring a rod?
No. The inn rents fishing sets for ¥2,200–2,750, though it doesn’t list what’s included.
QCan I fish in winter?
The inn says you can fish all year, and its winter list names blackhead seabream, jack mackerel, red seabream and others. The inn’s 2026 catch reports run from May to September, so we can’t say how winter fishing goes. Snow can make the roads hard.
QCan kids fish?
The inn doesn’t list an age limit for the pier. A catch report mentions a 4-year-old who caught fish, and Klook says children of any age can stay. The inn asks guests to wear life jackets at night.
QCan I do this as a day trip from Kanazawa?
No. The pier is for staying guests, and the bus takes about 4 hours each way.
Ready to Book?
If a fishing line off your own pier sounds like a good night, this inn reels you in. We’d book a night with breakfast, take the 13:30 bus from Kanazawa, and fish before and after dinner. Pack warm layers and bring cash for the taxi.
