Want to cast for bass with Mt. Fuji on the horizon? This tour puts you on a private boat on Lake Kawaguchi with a local guide, rental gear and a life jacket.
It runs for 2, 4 or 8 hours, and the guide speaks English. It suits first-timers and families as well as anglers who already know their way around a baitcasting reel. We built this guide from the Klook listing, the operator’s website, the lake’s fishing rules and the town’s fishing tax page.

How the Fishing Works
You fish for largemouth bass from a bass boat with a local guide at the helm. The operator’s website lists two boats, a SKEETER ZX250 and a Bass Cat Pantera Classic, and mentions GARMIN LiveScope. Its guides are Kazuma Sassa and Haruto Ohno, and the guide can change with your booking date.

I’ve never fished for bass. Is that OK?

Yes. Klook says the trip suits beginners, and rental gear and a life jacket are included. You can arrive with no tackle of your own.
Lake Kawaguchi Fishing Rules
Lake Kawaguchi has its own rules, and they apply to everyone on the lake, guided trips included. This section covers the rules of the lake’s fishing cooperative and the town’s fishing tax.
⚠️ Everyone needs a fishing ticket — Guided clients included. Children in junior high school or younger pay less, and elementary school children and younger are free
- No worms — Soft plastic lures and synthetic baits are banned. Spinnerbaits, rubber jigs and pork rind made of natural material don’t count as worms
- Keep fish 25 cm or longer — The rules list 25 cm or longer for largemouth bass. We read that as “put smaller fish back”
- Two rods per person — Trolling is banned too
- Don’t take live bass away — Largemouth bass must not leave the lake alive
- Two beaches are closed all year — The beaches at Funatsu (船津浜) and 浅川浜 are off limits because they’re crowded with tourists and unsafe. Posts mark the zones
Fishing hours run from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. The season for largemouth bass is January 1 to December 31.
Fishing ticket prices
The prices below are from the lake’s rules and the town’s tax page, checked in October 2026. They include the town’s ¥200 fishing tax for adults.
| Who | Advance | On site |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | ¥1,100 | ¥1,600 |
| Junior high school students | ¥450 | ¥700 |
| Elementary school and younger | Free | Free |
Source: Kawaguchiko fishing cooperative rules (Yamanashi Prefecture) and the Fujikawaguchiko town fishing tax page, checked October 2026.
Klook doesn’t list the ticket as included. The operator’s website says it’s ¥1,100 per person, paid in cash on the boat. Ask the operator through Klook before you book whether the ticket is included.
We’d suggest carrying ¥1,600 in cash for each adult. That’s the higher on-site price, so you’re covered whichever rate the guide asks for.
You can also buy tickets ahead at 27 outlets around the lake. They include 5 convenience stores (Seven-Eleven and FamilyMart), tackle shops and the cooperative office.

Can I bring my own soft plastics?

No. The lake’s rules ban worms for everyone, guided trips included. Spinnerbaits, rubber jigs and natural pork rind are allowed. The operator’s website says rental rods, reels and lures are included.
Does Japan require a license for fishing at all? Not for sea rod fishing, but lakes like this one use a local ticket. Our fishing license guide explains the difference.
How to Get There
From Tokyo
Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko Station
Departs 05:15, arrives 07:58 (about 2 hours 43 minutes, ¥2,569 with an IC card)
This is the earliest arrival we found for a Tuesday in October 2026
Cheaper route
Departs 05:29, arrives 08:18 via the Keio Line (3 transfers, ¥2,186 with an IC card)
Back to Shinjuku
A highway bus leaves at 15:33 and reaches Bus Terminal Shinjuku at 17:40 (¥2,200)
Source: Yahoo! Transit search for Tuesday, October 20, 2026, checked October 2026. Times vary by day.
The first train gets you to the station at 7:58. That’s too late for the 7:00 and 8:00 starts, so the 9:00 start is the only day-trip option. You’ll have about an hour to spare.
For a Tokyo day trip, we’d book the 9:00 start with the 4-hour plan and choose a 13:00 or 14:00 return. A 15:00 return leaves just 33 minutes before the 15:33 bus. Klook says the ride back goes to your hotel or address, so ask the operator about a station drop-off.
The bus times above suit the 2-hour and 4-hour plans. The 8-hour plans return at 17:00–19:00, after the buses we found.

Can I do this as a day trip from Tokyo?

Yes, but only with the 9:00 start. The first train reaches Kawaguchiko Station at 7:58, too late for 7:00 or 8:00. For those starts, stay in Kawaguchiko the night before.
From Haneda Airport
If you land in Tokyo the day before, plan on about 3 hours to Kawaguchiko Station. One option on a Monday in October 2026 left Haneda Terminal 3 at 15:04 and arrived at 18:07. It used the monorail, the JR Yamanote Line to Shinjuku, then a Fujikyu highway bus from Bus Terminal Shinjuku. The total was ¥2,972, with ¥2,200 of it for the bus. An airport limousine bus to Shinjuku Station and the same Fujikyu bus costs ¥3,600 and arrives at 18:27.
We couldn’t confirm whether the Fujikyu bus needs a reservation or lets you carry fishing rods. Check with Fujikyu before you travel. Our guide to bringing fishing rods to Japan covers rods and airport transfers. A data plan helps you find the pickup spot, so see our eSIM guide.
Stay the night before
For the 7:00 or 8:00 start, we’d suggest sleeping in Kawaguchiko the night before. The first train from Tokyo arrives at 7:58, and the operator can pick you up at your hotel instead.
Enter the hotel name and address on Klook’s payment screen. Klook says pickup is from set spots in the Lake Kawaguchi and Mt. Fuji area. We’d book a room only after the operator confirms your hotel is covered.
