Imagine heading out from Uno Port at 7 a.m., casting for sea bream among the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, and a few hours later sitting down to your own catch, fresh out of a seaside hot spring.

That’s the idea behind this fishing, onsen and hotel package in Tamano, Okayama. It brings together local boat operator Setouchi Fishing Tours, Setouchi Onsen Tamanoyu and UNO HOTEL in one two-day trip. It suits beginners, couples and friends, and anyone heading to the art islands of Naoshima and Teshima, because Uno Port is where many of the island ferries leave from.

We built this guide from the KKday listing, the hotel’s, onsen’s and boat operator’s own pages, and the train and bus timetables. We flag anything we couldn’t confirm.

Is This Package Right for You?

✅ Great if you…

  • have never fished from a boat. The captain explains the tackle and how to fish
  • want fishing, a hot spring and a hotel night booked in one go
  • are heading to Naoshima or Teshima anyway. The ferries leave from Uno Port
  • don’t drive. The station, hotel, onsen and boat are all within a few minutes’ walk

⚠️ Think twice if you…

  • have tattoos. The onsen and the lunch both take place at Tamanoyu
  • get seasick easily, or can’t make a 7:00 start
  • need a bathtub in your room. Only the Corner Suite has one
  • want a fixed target fish. The listing doesn’t say which fish your trip targets

Tackle, Life Jackets and the Boat

The KKday listing doesn’t say whether rental tackle is included in the package, so ask KKday before you go. The operator also offers paid rentals and a fish-cleaning service on its own trips, but we couldn’t confirm which of these apply to the package.

According to the operator’s official site, boats leave from the pier next to Tamanoyu, and both boats have a flush toilet. The operator says everyone must wear a life jacket, and it lends one free if you don’t have your own. Just mention it when you book.

What You Can Catch, Month by Month

The operator, Setouchi Fishing Tours, runs different trips through the year. Red sea bream is the main target almost all year, so the table shows the sea bream count of the day’s best angler in its catch reports from October 2025 to September 2026. Read the numbers as the upper end of a good outing, not an average.

MonthWhat the operator’s trips targetRed sea bream, best angler (slow day → good day)

The other fish have their own seasons. Whiting runs about 10 to 30 fish a day in June and July, and pufferfish about 20 in July and August. Bigfin reef squid runs 3 to 7 a day in September and October, and one quiet September 17 trip caught 12 by tip-run. Where the operator’s pages differ slightly, the months are approximate.

A few terms: tai rubber is a weighted lure with a rubber skirt that you reel slowly near the bottom, hitotsu tenya is a single hook on a weight fished with bait, sabiki is a line of several small hooks, and tip-run is a squid-fishing style used from a drifting boat.

The KKday listing doesn’t say which fish your trip targets, so check the booking page for your date. It also doesn’t say which species Tamanoyu can cook for your lunch, so ask when you book.

Alex

Wait, is that what a beginner like me will catch?

Seto Angler

Not necessarily. Those are the best-catching customer’s numbers, and there’s no catch guarantee. In May 2026, the best sea bream counts ranged from 2 on slow days to 12 on good ones.

It’s worth reading a few recent entries on the operator’s catch report page before you go. Go for the experience and treat your catch as the bonus.

Is It Beginner-Friendly?

Generally, yes. According to the KKday listing, the captain explains how to choose your tackle and how to fish, and children aged 6 and up can join.

Alex

I’ve never been out on a fishing boat. What if I get seasick?

Seto Angler

Take seasickness medicine before you board and eat a light breakfast. Conditions vary by day, so a little preparation makes it much easier.

Wear layers you can move in. Early mornings on the water can feel cold, especially from November to March, so bring a wind- and waterproof jacket.

Fishing rules: You don’t normally arrange anything yourself on a guided boat, but rules differ by area and species. See our guide: do you need a fishing license in Japan?

About UNO HOTEL and Tamanoyu Onsen

UNO HOTEL opened in July 2021, about a 3-minute walk from Uno Port. The hotel’s design leans on deep denim blue, a nod to the area’s history of jeans-making. Your Tamanoyu entry ticket gives you onsen access until noon on check-out day, according to the KKday listing, so you can soak the evening before your boat trip too.

⚠️ Tattoos — Setouchi Onsen Tamanoyu does not admit guests with tattoos, according to its official FAQ. The onsen part of this package won’t be available to you, and your catch is served at Tamanoyu, so contact KKday before booking to ask whether the plan can still work for you

  • Closures — Tamanoyu closes on the third Tuesday of each month (the next day if that Tuesday is a public holiday). It also closes for local events. In October 2026 it is closed on October 20 and October 23–25, and UNO HOTEL guests can’t bathe on October 24 and 25. Check the news page before choosing your dates
Alex

Mine is just a small tattoo. Couldn’t I cover it with a sticker?

Seto Angler

Tamanoyu’s FAQ doesn’t mention cover-ups, so we wouldn’t count on it. Ask before you book, and show this line to KKday or the hotel front desk.

EnglishJapanese (how to say it)
I have a tattoo. Can I use Tamanoyu?タトゥーがありますが、たまの湯を利用できますか? (Tatū ga arimasu ga, Tamanoyu o riyō dekimasu ka?)

According to the KKday listing, the Tamanoyu baths are gender-separated and nude, so don’t wear a towel in the bath, and keep your voice down.

How to Get to Uno Port

Everything is within a few minutes’ walk of JR Uno Station: the hotel, the onsen and the boat. You don’t need a car. Uno Station has coin lockers and takes ICOCA and other IC cards.

Shin-Osaka → Okayama

About 45 minutes on the Sanyo Shinkansen (Nozomi)

Tokyo → Okayama

A little over 3 hours on the fastest Nozomi

Okayama Airport → Okayama Station

About 30 minutes by limousine bus

Okayama → Uno

About 45–55 minutes on the JR Uno Minato Line

Local trains to Uno don’t run every few minutes, so check the timetable before you go. The Uno Line is a JR West line, so the Japan Rail Pass covers it. If you have a regional JR West pass, check that its map includes the line.

The airport bus takes IC cards on board. Without one, buy a ticket from the machine at the bus stop first. It takes contactless credit cards, e-money and QR payments.

Add Naoshima and Teshima

Shikoku Kisen ferries leave Uno Port for Naoshima’s Miyanoura Port in about 20 minutes. Uno Port is also the departure point for Teshima. After your lunch on Day 2, you can catch an afternoon ferry and spend the night on the island. Ferries don’t run every few minutes, so check the timetable first.

Stay connected

The fishing grounds are scattered among islands, so pick an eSIM with good coverage. See our comparison: best eSIM for fishing in Japan.
