Want to hook your lunch and grill it on the spot? At Miyori, you can.
The Miyori Mountain Stream Fishing Area (三依渓流つり場, Miyori Keiryu Tsuriba) sits in the mountains of Nikko, Tochigi. The venue divides an 800 m stretch of river into 60 sections with natural stones. You pick a fish (iwana, yamame or trout), staff stock your section, and you fish with a rented rod or your own. Then you can have your catch grilled over charcoal.
From Asakusa, one direct express train gets you to the nearest station in about 2 hours 40 minutes. We built this guide from the KKday listing, the venue’s own site, Tobu’s limited express ticket guide and the Yagan Railway’s guide to riding its trains, and we flag what we couldn’t confirm.

Is This Day Trip Right for You?
✅ Great if you…
- have never fished. Staff stock your section, and the venue recommends trout for beginners. Two KKday reviews (from 2021 and 2022) say staff taught them how to fish
- are traveling with kids. The venue calls it an easy-footing stream fishing spot, and small children are welcome
- want to eat what you catch. Staff grill or fry it on site
- don’t own gear. You can rent a rod and buy bait there
⚠️ Think twice if you…
- like to release your fish. Releasing is banned
- carry only cards. The venue and the Yagan Railway take cash only
- plan to go between December 1 and March 20. The venue is closed
- want wild stream fishing. The river is divided into sections, and staff stock fish for you
📅 When Miyori is open

We couldn’t confirm it. The venue’s website doesn’t mention English, and KKday’s language list doesn’t say whose languages they are. Use the phrases in the cooking section below, and carry this page on your phone.
How a Day at Miyori Works
The venue says these times can change.
7:00–12:00
Check in
You get a numbered tag for your section and a stocking ticket
8:00–12:00
Fish go in
Hand over your ticket and staff release the fish you chose into your section
10:00–15:00
Cooking window
Staff grill or fry your catch. Busy days can mean they can’t take orders
15:00
Last food order
The cafeteria stops taking orders
16:00
Closing time
Fishing ends
There is no time limit on fishing and no limit on how many fish you can catch. The venue says one person’s stocking is 5 fish.
Here is a day built from the train times in this guide. The 6:30 train reaches the station at 9:08. Add the 30-minute walk and you arrive at about 9:40. Fish from 10:00, eat around 12:00, and leave by about 15:00 to walk back for the 15:35 train, which reaches Asakusa at 18:15.

I’ve never fished. Will I catch anything?

Staff put fish into your section, so your odds are better than in an open river. But nobody guarantees a catch. Two KKday reviews say staff showed them how to fish, and the venue recommends trout for beginners. Pick trout.
Prices: What KKday Covers and What You Pay on Site
KKday covers the fishing fee. Everything else is a separate cash payment at the venue.
Prices below are what KKday and the venue’s website showed in October 2026 and change with the date and availability.
| What you pay for | Price | Where you pay |
|---|---|---|
| Fishing fee | about US$28 per person | KKday |
| Rental rod (carbon, 3.6 m) | ¥300 | Venue, cash |
| Salmon roe bait (ikura) or grubs | ¥700 | Venue, cash |
| Grilled with salt (shioyaki) | ¥300 per fish | Venue, cash |
| Deep-fried (karaage) | ¥300 per fish | Venue, cash |
| Sashimi with fresh wasabi | ¥700 per fish | Venue, cash |
| Barbecue area | ¥500 per person | Venue, cash |
Source: KKday and the venue’s official site, checked October 2026.
For one person who rents a rod, buys roe and has 2 fish salted and grilled, cash comes to ¥1,600. Add a bowl of soba with real wasabi (¥1,000) and it’s ¥2,600.
We’d pick about ¥3,000 in cash per person for the venue. You can’t pay by card there, and the train home is cash too (see the warning below).
Family members can share one rod, and watching is free, says the venue. If someone just wants to watch, they don’t need to rent anything.

Can I just pay by card there?

No. The venue says it takes cash only, and so does the Yagan Railway. Take out cash in Asakusa before you leave.
The Fish and How the Fishing Works
You choose from three kinds of fish.
Iwana
whitespotted char (iwana, イワナ).
Yamame
the stream-resident form of masu salmon (yamame, ヤマメ).
Trout
the venue calls it masu (マス). It doesn’t say which species.
If you’re new to fishing, we’d pick the trout. The venue recommends it for beginners.
The rental rods suit bait fishing with salmon roe. You can also fish with lures, flies or tenkara (a traditional Japanese fly-fishing style). But the venue doesn’t rent those rods, so bring your own. If you’re flying in with a rod, read our guide on how to fly into Japan with a fishing rod first.
⚠️ Rules at the stream
- No releasing — The venue says releasing is banned and staff hold the fish you catch. You can eat the catch, or swap it (see below)
- Empty sections are open — Any section with no people or bags is free to fish
- No swimming — The river is not for swimming
- Hand-catching is summer only — The venue runs catch-by-hand fishing only from mid-July to early September

Can I release the fish?

No. Staff hold what you catch. If you can’t eat it all, the venue lets you swap each fish, for ¥400 per fish, for its kanroni (sweet-simmered fish), furikake (rice topping) or soboro (flaked fish). We couldn’t confirm whether you can take fish home.
Cooking and Eating Your Catch
Staff cook your catch. You choose how.
Shioyaki
Grilled with salt over charcoal. ¥300 per fish.
Karaage
Deep-fried. ¥300 per fish.
Sashimi
Served with fresh wasabi. ¥700 per fish.
Cooking runs 10:00–15:00. The cafeteria is indoors with tatami seating and a wood stove. Menu items include soba with real wasabi (¥1,000), two rice balls (¥500) and a rice-and-miso-soup set (¥600). The venue asks you not to bring food, except snacks and baby food.
If you don’t speak Japanese, point to this table.
| English | Japanese | How to say it |
|---|---|---|
| Grilled with salt, please | 塩焼きでお願いします | Shioyaki de onegaishimasu |
| Deep-fried, please | 唐揚げでお願いします | Karaage de onegaishimasu |
Is It Good for Kids and Beginners?
The venue says small children are welcome and the footing is good. The rental rod is 3.6 m long, so an adult should help. KKday lists ages 0 to 100.
Toilets
Western-style flush toilets, in the white building in the parking lot.
Food
An indoor cafeteria with tatami seating.
Connection
Free Wi-Fi. SoftBank works across the grounds, docomo near reception, and au has no signal.
Pets
Allowed, but not off leash and not in the cafeteria.
If you use an au SIM, download this page before you go. Our eSIM guide for Japan can help you sort out a connection.
How to Get There from Tokyo
⚠️ Before you board: tickets and cash
- No Suica or PASMO on the Yagan Railway — Nakamiyori-Onsen Station is on the Yagan Railway (野岩鉄道, Yagan Tetsudo). It takes cash only. Credit cards and e-money don’t work either
- Get a paper ticket, not a tap — The Yagan Railway asks IC-card riders to settle in cash and then have the card processed later at a station in the IC area. Buy a ticket to Nakamiyori-Onsen (中三依温泉) before you board. We couldn’t confirm where in Asakusa Station it is sold, so ask at the ticket window
- Limited express ticket to Kamimiyori-Shiobara-Onsenguchi — Tobu’s rule is to buy the limited express ticket for Asakusa to Kamimiyori-Shiobara-Onsenguchi Station (上三依塩原温泉口), one stop past Nakamiyori-Onsen. Show the characters to the ticket staff
- Unstaffed station — Nakamiyori-Onsen has no staff. On the way home, board the train and tell the conductor which stations you are riding between, then pay in cash
By train from Asakusa
These times are for a weekday in October 2026.
| Train | Leaves Asakusa → arrives | Fare |
|---|---|---|
| Revaty Aizu 101 (リバティ会津101号), direct | 6:30 → 9:08 | ¥4,440 |
| Revaty Kinu 105 (リバティきぬ105号) + change at Kinugawa-Onsen (鬼怒川温泉) | 7:30 → 10:09 | ¥3,980 |
Source: Yahoo! Japan Transit, searched October 2026.
If you’re going from Asakusa, we’d pick the 6:30 direct train. It has no change, and it gets you to the station by 9:08, well before reception closes at 12:00. The 7:30 option also makes it in time, but you change trains once.
The 6:30 train leaves from platform 3 at Asakusa Station (浅草駅). Revaty Aizu is a reserved-seat train, so buy a ticket first.
From the station to the fishing area
The fishing area is about 3 km from Nakamiyori-Onsen Station, a 30-minute walk, says the venue. The venue also runs a shuttle. It needs a reservation and may not run at some times of day or on busy days like Golden Week and Obon.
If you don’t want to walk, ask KKday about the shuttle before you book. We couldn’t confirm that you can catch a taxi at the station, so don’t count on one.
Getting back
After 14:00, the next train home is at 15:35. Plan your day around these three.
| Leaves Nakamiyori-Onsen | Arrives Asakusa | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 15:35 | 18:15 | Direct, no change |
| 16:15 | 19:15 | Change at Kinugawa-Onsen |
| 18:20 | 21:05 | Direct, no change |
Source: Yahoo! Japan Transit, searched October 2026.
From the airport
Stay in Asakusa the night before. The 6:30 train leaves from there.
- From Haneda Airport Terminal 3 — about 40 minutes without changing trains on the Keikyu and Toei Asakusa lines (¥599)
- From Narita Airport — about 1 hour with one change, on the Keisei Skyliner and the Keisei Oshiage line (¥2,422)

By car
From Imaichi IC (今市IC), take Route 121 for 45 km, about 60 minutes. From Nishinasuno-Shiobara IC (西那須野塩原IC), take Route 400 for 35 km, about 40 minutes, says the venue. Parking is free for about 50 cars, but it can fill up on holidays and long weekends.

Cancellation
KKday’s cancellation policy (as of October 2026):
KKday refunds to your original payment method within 15 days after it confirms the cancellation.

- Floods cancel the day — KKday says the activity is canceled when the river rises too much. The venue closed for several days after heavy rain in September 2026
- Refunds for a flood cancellation — The KKday listing doesn’t say how refunds work. Ask KKday before you book
- Rain gear — KKday asks you to bring rain gear if it rains

You can’t release it. Releasing is banned. We couldn’t confirm whether you can take fish home, so eat it there or trade it for a processed product.

Yes. The 6:30 train from Asakusa arrives at 9:08, and the 15:35 train gets you back to Asakusa at 18:15.
