Want to start your day on the water, with an active volcano in front of you and the sun still below the horizon? This early-morning boat trip leaves from the waterfront by Kagoshima’s fish market at 5:00 and runs about five hours on Kinko Bay (錦江湾, Kinkō-wan).
Rods, tackle and lures are provided, and the captain tells you where and how to fish. You book in English on Klook. The listing is new and has no reviews yet, and it doesn’t name the boat or the company. This guide covers what the listing says and what it leaves out. It also shows how to reach a 4:30 meeting point when the trams aren’t running.
Prices in this guide are what Klook showed in October 2026. They change with the date and availability.

Is This Trip Right for You?
✅ Great if you…
- have never fished. The listing says beginners are welcome and the crew provides all the gear
- are traveling with kids aged 5 or older
- can get up early, or are staying in Tenmonkan or Izuro, a 15–20 minute walk from the meeting point
- want Sakurajima as your backdrop
⚠️ Think twice if you…
- get seasick easily. The trip is about 5 hours on the water
- like to choose by reviews. The listing has none yet
- want to know the boat and the company before you pay. Klook doesn’t name them
- have a child under 5. The minimum age is 5
- are after the night hairtail fishing in the listing photos. The only bookable slot is the early-morning trip
Your Morning, Hour by Hour
Sunrise in Kagoshima is between 5:12 (mid-June) and 7:18 (mid-January) over the year, according to the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. So you meet in the dark and leave before sunrise in every month.

Where You Meet: “Kagoshima Chuo Fish Market”
Klook names the meeting point “In front of Kagoshima Chuo Fish Market” and gives the address 15-15 Sumiyoshi-cho (住吉町, Sumiyoshi-chō), Kagoshima City, 892-0823. The city’s wholesale fish market is listed at a different address, 37-2 Jonan-cho (城南町). Klook’s map pin sits in Sumiyoshi-cho, a few hundred meters from the market buildings.
KYUSHU REGION
Kinko Bay, Kagoshima
Meet: By the fish market in Kagoshima City, 4:30
Fishing: On Kinko Bay. The captain picks the spot each day
So don’t walk into the market grounds and expect a dock. Once you’ve booked, message the operator in the Klook chat and ask for the exact spot. We’d pick the day before for that, not 4:30 in the dark, because the pin and the market address don’t match.

Can I buy fish at the market after the trip?

No. The market doesn’t sell to the general public, according to the city. The restaurants and shops inside are open to visitors, so you can eat there instead.
How the Fishing Works
The fishing
The captain chooses the fishing spot for the day and teaches you how to fish, says the listing. Klook doesn’t list target fish. It only says the catch changes with the season. The season table below shows what other boats on the bay have been catching.
Gear
- Rods, tackle, lures and other equipment are provided
- Klook doesn’t say whether bait is included. Ask in the chat after you book
- Klook doesn’t mention life jackets. On small boats in Japan, the captain must make everyone outside the cabin wear an approved life jacket, under rules from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Ask in the chat whether the boat lends one
Who runs the boat?
Klook shows no company name and no boat name. The only contact the listing gives is an email address for cancellations. We’d pick the Klook chat right after booking to ask for the boat’s name, so you can recognize it at the dock.
The product name on Klook is “Jinjiang Bay Sea Fishing Experience.” Jinjiang is the Chinese reading of the characters 錦江. It’s the same bay as Kinko Bay.
What Kinko Bay Boats Catch, Season by Season
This is not this boat’s catch record. Klook doesn’t list target fish. The table shows what four other charter boats on the bay reported on their daytime and morning trips from October 2025 to September 2026. Your catch will depend on the day.
All year
- Red seabreamtairaba (a lure with a rubber skirt)komase (chum bait)hitotsu tenya (a small weighted single hook)
Also reported
- Japanese jack mackerel and saba (サバ)sabiki (a rig of many small hooks)
November – January
- Japanese amberjack, greater amberjack, striped bonitootoshikomi (dropping a bait to the fish)jigging
January – March
- Japanese Spanish mackerelblade jigging
February – April, and July
- Hairtail (daytime)tenya (a weighted hook baited with a sardine)
April – September
- Areolate grouper, Hong Kong grouperSLJtairaba
October – December, and May
- Bigfin reef squidtip-run (squid jig fishing from a drifting boat)
Red seabream peaks from January to April, when the fish move from the mouth of the bay toward the inside to spawn. Some days are slow, even in peak season.

Will I catch the giant hairtail in the photos?

Probably not on this booking. The photo is captioned “Night fishing for hairtail,” and the only bookable slot is the early-morning trip. Daytime hairtail did show up on the bay’s boats from February to April and in July.
Is It Beginner-Friendly?
Yes, according to the listing: “Beginners are welcome.” The crew provides the gear and the captain explains how to fish.
- Age: 5 and over
- Toilet: a simple restroom on board
- Seasickness: the listing doesn’t mention it. Bring your own motion-sickness pills if you’re prone to it. Klook says intoxicated guests may be refused with no refund
- Drinks and sun: Klook recommends bringing your own drinking water, a hat and sunscreen
- Feeding: don’t feed sea creatures, says the listing
Because the trip is about 5 hours long, we’d pack the pills if anyone in your group has never been on a small boat.
Your Catch: Taking It Home or Eating It
If you want to take fish home, tell the crew before you go out. Klook says coolers and ice cost extra. It doesn’t say how to pay, so carry some yen in cash.
Klook also says the crew can introduce restaurants that will cook your catch. Ask in the chat when you book.
If the captain tells you to release a small fish, release it. Kagoshima has size limits for some species. Our fishing license guide covers the rules.
Getting There for a 4:30 Start
Trams and city buses don’t run that early. The first tram leaves Kagoshima-Chuo Station at about 5:34 and Tenmonkan-dori at about 5:41. City buses start later. You have three realistic options.
From Kagoshima Airport
The airport limousine bus (“Kagoshima City Line”) leaves from stop 8. No reservation needed. The fare is ¥1,500 for adults.
- To Kagoshima-Chuo Station: about 40–55 minutes
- To Tenmonkan: about 10 minutes more
- From the airport: 8:40 to 21:30
- Pay: cash, Rapica, or contactless credit card
The first bus is at 8:40, so you can’t fly in and go straight to a 5:00 boat the same morning. Plan on arriving the day before.
Plan A: stay in Tenmonkan and walk
The meeting point is about 15–20 minutes on foot from Tenmonkan. The streets will be dark and quiet. If you don’t mind that, we’d pick a hotel in Tenmonkan or Izuro, because the walk saves you from booking a taxi.
Plan B: taxi
From Kagoshima-Chuo Station it’s about 15 minutes by taxi. Two companies say they run 24 hours. We’d pick Plan B only if you stay at the station, and we’d book the pickup the evening before. If you’d rather not phone in Japanese, ask your hotel’s front desk to book it for you. We couldn’t confirm that a taxi will come to a hotel at 4:00 without a booking.
| Company | Phone (in Japan) | Phone (from abroad) |
|---|---|---|
| Nangoku Taxi | 099-222-6151 | +81-99-222-6151 |
| Nanshu Taxi | 099-247-0001 | +81-99-247-0001 |
Nanshu takes cash, credit cards, e-money and QR payments. The ride apps GO and DiDi cover parts of Kagoshima City.
Plan C: hotel pickup
Klook says groups of 3 or more get a free hotel pickup and drop-off. The listing doesn’t give the area. Ask in the chat before you book a hotel.

Can I take the tram?

No. The first tram leaves at about 5:30, after the boat has left. Walk or take a taxi.
Booking, Cancellation and Bad Weather
Booking is confirmed instantly. Klook shows “Book now for tomorrow,” so book at least a day ahead.
Cancellation
Klook’s cancellation policy (as of October 2026):
| When you cancel or arrive | What happens |
|---|---|
| 48 hours or more before | Full refund |
| Up to 2 days before | You can change the date |
| 20 minutes or more late | No refund |
| The operator cancels (bad weather) | You choose a new date or a full refund |
Weather
⚠️ Typhoons — Southern Kyushu averages 0.7 typhoon approaches in July, 1.0 in August and 1.2 in September. Weather cancellations are most likely then
- Volcanic ash — Sakurajima is active. The Japan Meteorological Agency posts ash forecasts. Check them the evening before
- The schedule can change — Klook says times may change with traffic and weather, so check the chat before you leave

After the Trip: Sakurajima and the City

- Sakurajima: the Sakurajima Ferry terminal is a 15-minute walk away. The ferry takes about 15 minutes and costs ¥250 for adults. You can pay by credit card or IC card. It no longer runs 24 hours: there are no sailings from 0:00 to 3:59

FAQ
QDoes the captain speak English?
Only simple English, says the listing. With 6 or more guests, a Chinese-speaking guide helps for free. Use the Klook chat for anything important.
QCan I go alone?
Yes. The group size runs from 1 to 20.
QCan my kids come?
Yes, from age 5. Klook has a separate price for ages 5–12.
QDo I need a fishing license?
No. We found no license system for rod fishing in the sea in official sources. Japan’s Fisheries Agency allows foreign visitors to rod-fish from fishing charters run by Japanese fishers, and it asks everyone to follow local rules. Our fishing license guide has the details.
QWhat will I catch?
It depends on the season. See the table above.
QWhat if the trip is canceled for weather?
You choose a new date or a full refund.
QCan I take my fish home?
Yes. Tell the crew in advance. Coolers and ice cost extra.
QAre there afternoon or night trips?
Klook’s description mentions them, but the only bookable slot is the early-morning trip.
Ready to Book?
If dawn, a volcano and a rod in your hands sound like your kind of morning, this is an easy add to a Kagoshima stay. Hooked already? Book a hotel in Tenmonkan, set the alarm for 4:00 and ask the Klook chat for the dock spot.
