Want to land your first fish without buying a single rod? This trip is built for that. A shared boat takes you to the calm, shallow water inside the reef off Kadena, on Okinawa’s main island. The rod, the bait and the life jacket are all included, and kids can join from age 3.
There are three departures a day, so the trip fits around a beach morning or a late flight. Afterward, a nearby restaurant can cook what you caught, for a separate fee. We built this guide from the KKday listing, the operator’s website, Okinawa Bus timetables and fares, and Naha Airport’s taxi guide. We flag anything we couldn’t confirm.

Is This Trip Right for You?
✅ Great if you…
- have never fished. The captains teach you the rig and take the fish off the hook
- travel with a child aged 3 or older
- want a short outing. The whole trip takes 2 hours
- stay in Chatan or Yomitan, a short bus ride away
- don’t mind a light rain. Several reviewers went out in it
⚠️ Think twice if you…
- want a big fish or a big catch. The listing says it can’t promise a catch and points those guests to another plan
- want a private boat. This is a shared boat
- get seasick easily and won’t take medicine
- are pregnant, or are traveling with a child under 3
- are landing at Naha Airport the same morning and hoping for the 9:00 trip. The first airport bus leaves too late
When Can You Go?
The operator says it runs three trips a day, and its diary has trips in all 12 months. Winter and typhoon season change a few things.
📅 When the boats go out
Open Part of the month Closed
The operator says the sun sets early in winter, so the 15:00 trip may not run in some periods. Its diary mentions typhoon cancellations in summer and autumn.

Which departure should I pick?

It depends on how you arrive. If you’re flying into Naha that morning, we’d pick 11:30 or 15:00, because the first airport bus leaves at 8:40 on weekdays. If you want 9:00, sleep in Chatan or Naha the night before.
In winter, plan on 9:00 or 11:30. The operator says the sun sets early and the 15:00 trip may not be offered in some periods.
How the Fishing Works
Dropper rig
The operator says everyone fishes with a dotsuki (胴突き) dropper rig: several hooks on one line, lowered to the bottom.
Krill bait
The bait is krill, and it targets fish that live around the coral reef.
The captain helps
The operator says the captain teaches you and takes the hook out of the fish.
Gear and life jackets
The price includes the fishing gear, the life jacket, the bait, the boat fare, insurance and tax. You don’t bring a rod. Wear the life jacket the whole time. The operator says it is required.
The boats
The operator, Okinawa Usagi and Umiashibi, runs two boats. The Usagi-maru and the Sango-maru each carry up to 12 adults, and up to 24 guests go out at once. Several captains work the trips.

The listing says “2 Private Boats.” Is this a private charter?

No. That phrase means the operator owns two boats. The listing says this plan is not a private charter, and you share the boat with other guests.
What You Might Catch
The listing says the fish are wild, so no catch is guaranteed. Expect small to mid-size, colorful reef fish.
The operator’s fish guide lists 50 species. Examples are:
- gurukun (グルクン), a fusilier
- ojisan (オジサン), a manybar goatfish
- groupers (miibai, ミーバイ)
- wrasses, damselfish and rabbitfish
The operator’s diary gives a rough idea by season. Most posts are from 2017–2021, and few name fish, so treat this as a guide only:
- March: ojisan
- April: rabbitfish
- August–September: taman (タマン), a spangled emperor. One entry records a 40 cm fish
- October–November: parrotfish (irabuchaa, イラブチャー) and groupers
The operator describes one method for every guest: a dropper rig with krill.

Eating Your Catch
KKday says a restaurant that cooks fish you bring in can prepare your catch. The captain decides which one on the day. The meal costs extra, about ¥2,000 per KKday. We couldn’t confirm how you pay at the restaurant.
Some catches can’t be eaten, depending on the species and the haul. Many of these restaurants close on Wednesdays. The crew also provides bags and ice.

Can we eat what we catch on a Wednesday?

It may be hard. KKday says many of the restaurants are closed on Wednesdays. If a meal is part of your plan, we’d choose another day of the week.
Is It Beginner- and Kid-Friendly?
Yes. The trip is open to ages 3 to 79. Guests aged 12 and over pay the adult price. The fishing happens in shallow, calm water inside the reef.
Motion sickness
KKday recommends sickness medicine to anyone who gets seasick, and one reviewer warns about it. Take it before you board.
Sun
Bring a hat and sunscreen. KKday says the hat is not included.
Shoes
Wear shoes that can get wet.
Toilet
We couldn’t confirm whether the boat has one. The operator asks school groups to use the restroom before boarding, so go before you leave the hotel or the bus terminal.
English
The listing names English as a service language but doesn’t say how much the guides speak. Nine of the ten reviews we counted were in Japanese, and none mention a language problem. Keep your booking confirmation on your phone and a translation app ready.
Getting to Kadena Fishing Port
Meet at Kadena Fishing Port (嘉手納漁港), Mizugama 566-7, Kadena Town, Nakagami District, Okinawa (〒904-0204 沖縄県中頭郡嘉手納町水釜566-7). By car, KKday’s directions are: turn left at the Mizugama (水釜) intersection on Route 58, bear left at the second traffic light, then take the first left. The port is on your right after about 50 m. Drive through the gate to the middle of the port. The operator says the MAP code is 33 674 896 76.
From Naha city by bus
Take route 20 or 28 from Naha Bus Terminal. Routes 20 and 120 leave from platform 11, and routes 28 and 29 leave from platform 3. The fare is ¥960. Get off at Mizugama (水釜). From the stop, plan on 10–15 minutes on foot to the port.
For the 9:00 trip, these buses work. The times in brackets are for Kaihin Koen-mae (海浜公園前), the stop just before Mizugama:
- Weekdays: route 20 at 6:55 (8:03) or route 28 at 7:00 (8:01)
- Saturdays and holidays: route 20 at 6:55 (7:49) or route 28 at 7:05 (7:55)
- Sundays: route 20 at 6:50 or route 28 at 7:05
From Naha Airport by bus
Take route 120 from platform 5 to Mizugama. The fare is ¥1,060. Allow about 2 hours, including the wait and the walk.
The first bus leaves at 8:40 on weekdays and 8:30 on weekends, so the 9:00 trip is out. For the other two trips:
- 11:30 trip: the 9:20 bus on weekdays or the 9:10 bus on weekends
- 15:00 trip: the 12:30 bus on weekdays, 12:35 on Saturdays or 12:50 on Sundays. Take the one before if you want more time
From Chatan or Yomitan
From the American Village entrance in Chatan (美浜アメリカンビレッジ入口), the same route takes about 10 minutes and costs ¥340. From Yomitan Bus Terminal, routes 28 and 29 cost ¥520.
Free pickup from the bus stop
KKday says the operator offers free pickup from the nearest bus stop, which is Mizugama for the port. It can’t always do this in busy season or when staff are short. Ask for it after you book, and still plan to walk the 10–15 minutes.
By car or taxi
From Naha Airport, plan on 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes by car. KKday says you park at the port. We couldn’t confirm the parking fee or the number of spaces.
Naha Airport’s taxi guide doesn’t list Kadena. The closest entry is American Village, at about 40 minutes and about ¥5,600 (as of July 2025). Use that as a rough guide only.
Paying for the bus
Pay in cash, and keep ¥1,000 bills and coins ready. The bus gives no change, but you can swap ¥1,000 bills and coins on board. You can also use an OKICA card. Suica and the other national IC cards work on Okinawa’s Yui Rail monorail. We found no note that they work on city buses.

Can I use my Suica on the bus?

We couldn’t find a note that you can. OKICA’s FAQ says it can’t be used with other regions’ cards. Carry coins and ¥1,000 bills, or buy an OKICA.
Getting back
Buses run late enough for the last trip, which ends around 17:00. The last bus to the airport (route 120) leaves Kadena at 18:32 on weekdays, 18:51 on Saturdays and 18:29 on Sundays. The last route 20 bus to Naha Bus Terminal leaves at 21:10 on weekdays, 20:57 on Saturdays and 20:53 on Sundays.

Where to Stay
If you want the 9:00 trip, we’d suggest sleeping in Chatan. The bus to the port takes about 10 minutes, so you skip the 6:55 bus from Naha.
Prices below are what Klook showed in October 2026 and change with the date and availability.
- Vessel Hotel Campana Okinawa (Chatan): from about US$116, about 5.3 km in a straight line from the port
- La’gent Hotel Okinawa Chatan: from about US$84
- Hotel Nikko Alivila (Yomitan): from about US$113, about 6.8 km from the port
- Daiwa Roynet Hotel Naha-Kokusaidori (Naha): from about US$74, directly connected to Makishi Station
Booking, Cancellation and Bad Weather
You send a request, and KKday confirms about 1 day after you order. KKday says last-minute bookings are fine if there are seats and you can make the meeting time. We’d book more than 2 days ahead, so you keep free cancellation if the forecast turns.
Cancellation
KKday’s cancellation policy (as of October 2026):
The deadlines follow the operator’s local time. If you miss the meeting time, you can’t join, and the cancellation fee is 100%.
Weather
⚠️ Trips can be canceled — The operator cancels in bad weather or rough seas, and a sunny day with high waves still counts. The listing doesn’t say how refunds work for a weather cancellation, so ask KKday before you book
- Light rain — Reviewers report trips going out in the rain, and the operator says it has rain gear
How you pay
- Tour: by card on KKday, in advance
- Meal: about ¥2,000. We couldn’t confirm how you pay
- Bus: cash or OKICA

Around Kadena and Chatan
After a morning trip, head back to Chatan’s American Village, about 10 minutes by bus for ¥340.
